Aveyron Homes provides twelve homes that each serve four individuals who have a diagnosis of Mental Retardation, Developmental Disabilities or Related Conditions. Eleven homes are located in Hutchinson & one in Glencoe - all within McLeod County. Each home operates as a separate family group and is staffed according to the needs of the particular home.  Some have 2 staff on duty at all times and some just 1, as needed by the clients living there. Some homes are single gender homes and others are mixed, again, depending on the individual clients needs.

Each home has a vehicle available for the home at all times to transport clients to events in the community, shopping, doctor and dentist appointments and other activities. Clients save for and plan vacations in and out of the state.  Some clients and staff have gone to places such as Branson, Florida, Las Vegas, California and other places, as budgets allow. Staff are sent with clients on all trips and are paid to do so.

Each home operates individually and staff at each home assist the clients in planning everything. They cook their own meals with standby assistance, plan vacations, budget expenses, shop for personal items, just as ordinary people do. The main difference is that they are with staff at all times, unless able to be unsupervised for some times. This is only permitted when the full Interdisciplinary Team agrees it is appropriate for the client.

In-home services may also be provided for individuals living alone or with family members, but needing a small amount of staff support. Aveyron Homes can provide as few or as many hours of individual in-home support as needed. These services can be provided under the "In-home Waiver" programs or under Semi-Independent Living (SILS) programs or others, as approved by county case managers.
